As I can look back, I started writing at the age of 6 or 7. I was knowing just the basic and improper english which was very well reflecting in my only stories. Being a small kid I just use to write the stories about the conversations between flowers , leaves, birds, etc. and the family of four(as we were).
I started writing at a really young. It something I was 'born with'. Its just that I used to watch my older sister write poems and stuff when I was younger (she is 5 years older to me) and I guess I picked it up from her. Incidentally, my sister doesn't write anymore, so she we joke around that she of 'passed' on her passion to me!
I started writing at quite a young age. I still have my first poem that I wrote when I was about 6 or 7. Since then I never looked back. My parents were very supportive and encouraging and wanted me to write more and more. A huge part of my writing skills got honed because of the amount of stuff I read. I am an avid reader and a lot of my stories are inspired from my favourite books (like Harry Potter). I love contributing to my school magazine with a plethora of articles. Currently I am working on a novel, which would never have been started if I hadn't put my pen on the paper and composed a little poem when I was 7 years old.
I owe writing to my sister. Together, even before we knew how to write, we started loads of creative projects: movies, songs, collages, plays. And when she would get tired of me, she would go do her own art: often drawings but sometimes also graphic novels. Since, at that age, I had only her to look up to, I too would start my own comics. Later, as I read more and more, words appeared more trendy and tamable to me, so I moved to writing. I was always very ambitious with my writing projects. I never wrote short stories, only beginnings of big books I would quickly get bored of. However, there was a story that stayed in my mind for much longer. Whenever I would get a new idea for a plot or a character, I would add it to a branch of this mammoth story. It grew and grew until one day my head couldn't contain it anymore and I started writing it. For the next five years, I worked on the same book. Sticking to that story allowed me to familiarise myself with writing. But last year, in a desire to explore the less familiar, I moved to other writing projects. I like to see writing as a game with your unconscious mind, where you don't know where you'll end up but you know you'll discover a bit of yourself in there.
I think I started writing around 2nd or 3rd grade, though it’s hard to tell since it was a long time ago. It wasn’t really a single moment that sparked my interest in writing but I’d always been an avid reader so I guess it was a natural progression from that. I also did visual art and music so it was just another of my creative outlets. I used to write poems and sometimes even add melodies to make songs from them. The first short story I remember writing was in 4th grade for my school magazine and since then I’ve written many more. Right now, I’m working on a novel I started in 8th grade. Back then, I really enjoyed dystopian fiction but was tired of the tropes and cliches in it, especially the idea of the good guys vs. the bad guys and was looking for something a bit more nuanced. So I decided to write a story with no “villain”, told from the perspective of two people who are both “protagonists” and “antagonists” in their own right. I think currently what drives me to write is the chance to explore creatively and my characters allow me to see the human condition in a different way.
I really don't remember how I started my writing journey. What I do know is how I started writing. I went through quite a lot as a kid and writing was kind of an escape from reality for me (I know, sounds dramatic). A lot of my poems and just general literature pieces talk about my tough times . I don't like to forget about my past as I've learnt a lot from it. I always add a bit of my past into my writing pieces just to cherish those learnings I've had. This also actually explains why most of the pieces you have probably read of mine are about darkness and depressing stuff.
